What to Look For When Buying a Comforter Set

Look for a range that also offers extra matching accessories, such as drapes, lamps with coordinating shades, headboards, rugs and accent pillows. That way, when you have more cash available, you can add to your ‘new’ room.

A ‘typical’ comforter set comprises the comforter, a bed skirt and one, or two pillow shams. Others also include bed sheets and pillow cases. The sets do differ from one manufacturer to another so check what you will be getting before you buy.

This is also an economical way to buy bedding. If you buy the same items individually, it will usually be more expensive.

Some sets are reversible. The reverse sides usually tone in some way, so you can turn all, or just some of the items over. This means that you can get many different looks for your money.

Take Your Time

There is so much choice that you may feel overwhelmed! The designs, colors, styles and fabrics are so varied that you may start out looking for one style and end up choosing something entirely different! If you have any spare in the attic, take a small piece of bedroom carpet with you to help with color co-ordination.

Don’t be in a rush to buy – just enjoy searching for your perfect comforter set!

The Professional Touch

Trying to co-ordinate bed linens from different lines or stores is very difficult as the same color can vary from one maker to another.

Buying a complete comforter set takes the guesswork out of co-ordination. There are comforter sets for every style imaginable. Whether you prefer a traditional patchwork look, luxurious silk and satin or ultra modern you will be able to find a set to suit both your style and budget.

Your bed will look beautifully put together and will transform your bedroom and how you feel when you’re in it!

Most of the department store comforters sets are poly blends of cotton, rayon and nylon. The fill will usually be synthetic. This makes them very easy to care for as they can machine wash and dry.

You can also get 100% cotton or 100% silk. It very much depends on your budget and your personal preferences.

Size Matters

Bed sizes differ. For example, Queen and King bedding can differ in size from one manufacturer to another. Measure your bed carefully – including the depth of the mattress. If you’re buying a set with fitted sheets, you don’t want them coming untucked because the mattress is too deep to hold them firm.

Bed sizes also differ in the USA, UK and Europe. And the UK and Europe both measure in centimetres while the USA use inches. If you’re buying from another country, check out the different sizes – print out a copy and keep it with you when you’re shopping to avoid annoying mistakes.
