The bedding that you buy for your new baby is your choice. Your little girl may have a Nursery fit for a Princess sumptuous satin and lace, gingham and frills in pinks and whites. But as your baby begins to grow and develop, a personality emerges. Your little Princess may now have a passion for jungle animals or a particular cartoon character. And your little baby boy that was so happy in his blue silk room may now be crazy about dinosaurs or robots!

What sort of toddler bedding should I use

Room to grow
Choosing toddler bedding is an exciting time because you will have a certain amount of input from this little person who suddenly has opinions. Working on a new room together can be very rewarding as that person is now able to give you feedback and even small children can have very definite opinions!
If you’re redecorating to change a nursery into a toddler’s bedroom, choosing bedding can often help to shape the theme of the room so it’s a good place to start.
Out of the cot
Just a quick word about the bed itself. How do you know when to put your growing baby into a ‘proper’ bed? There is a simple calculation that can help.
Put the side rails into their highest position. Now, measure from the top of the mattress, to the top of the rails. If this measurement is less than 75% of the height of your baby (usually if they’re aged between 18 and 40 months) then it’s time to say goodbye to the cot.
Cot conversion
Baby cots that convert into toddler beds are a great idea. They save you money you may need to buy a reasonably priced conversion kit but this is usually bought at the same time as the cot. Also, the child is already used to the bed so the transition is not so traumatic.
Get creative!
There is so much available in the world of toddler bedding that it makes your head spin! Toddlers generally love bright colours and shapes. Take your time and be as sure as you can that your child really does love Spaceships. There’s nothing worse than buying bedding, matching curtains and carefully matching the paint only to discover that they adored Winnie The Pooh all along!
So Much To Choose From
The choice in bedding is enormous racing cars, trucks, dinosaurs, Disney characters, TV cartoon characters, sports teams, tropical seas, jungle animals, army camouflage, plain primary colors unless your child has a definite preference, you’ll have a problem choosing as they’re all so great. Have fun choosing!

What Sort of Bedding Should I Choose?
It’s really up to you. Most toddler bedding sets in the US come as a four piece set (comprising a Quilt, pillow case, top and bottom sheets) or a three piece (Quilt, bed skirt and pillow case). In the UK they are usually two pieces - a duvet cover and pillow case.
- Twin bedding can be an economical purchase as you get a Comforter, Dust Ruffle, Pillow Sham and can often buy matching shaped pillows at the same time for a really pulled-together look.
- Sleeping bags or sacks are very popular now. They’re practical because your child can sleep in one at home but also take it visiting friends or relatives. They’re also easy if your child prefers a daytime nap in a room other than the bedroom. If your child loves to undo the zip and climb out, try putting the sleeping bag inside out that way it’ll be virtually impossible for them to undo!
Always bear in mind how practical the bedding is. Ideally, it needs to be machine washable and easy to dry.
