Blue Bedding – Little Boy Blue

December 11, 2012 By Wanda Leave a Comment

There was a time when blue was used primarily to dress up a boys bedroom and in particular a baby boy’s nursery room.  But blue is not just for baby boys anymore, although that is still a lovely tradition.

Nowadays you can use blue bedding to compliment a myriad of themes. Soft blues are soothing and restful, and the perfect way to have your little lad go to bed – and sleep like a baby. If your favorite color happens to be blue, you have a lot of choices when it comes to blue nursery bedding.

Blue is also a good choice for dorm rooms. There are many manufacturers who cater specifically to the college crowd. AA comforter set in denim blue not only  looks great in any dorm room it is also very durable.

Darker shades of blue are often the staple color for ‘locker room’ bedding too – this is bedding with all of your favorite sports teams logos. Some of those popular sports teams include Duke (Blue Devils) and the Dallas Cowboys. Then there are those adolescent NASCAR fans who love bedding that features their popular drivers such as Jimmie Johnson, Rusty Wallace, and Jeff Gordon. These portraits are often featured on a blue background.

For adults who want a traditional look you can’t go wrong with a blue and tan striped set. This type of blue bedding also works well for people who are selling homes and need to stage their bedrooms as it’s a very classy look.

For a European flair with a soft look try a floral French Country theme in blue. If the ocean is more to your liking, blue seashells and water related themes or fishes will have you counting sheep in no time.

The wonderful thing about blue is that it’s such a versatile color. It plays well with others, and can blend with any color to present a peaceful oasis in a tumultuous household!

How to Choose Furniture for Your bedroom

July 22, 2011 By Wanda Leave a Comment

Decorating a bedroom is easy. You just need a few pieces of furniture to turn a bare bones room into a cozy place to while away a weekend in bed. So how to choose furniture for your bedroom? Start shopping!

Chest of drawers: a chest of drawers is a great organizational piece of furniture. It’s a tall cabinet that has different sized drawers for everything from big bulky sweaters to small drawers for socks.
Armoire: If you want a more classic look then an armoire or wardrobe is a wonderful choice. An armoire holds your hanging items such as suits and dresses. It’s a bulky piece best used in larger rooms.

Nightstand: Nightstands are great for every bedroom. You can find them in every shape and size to suit your bedroom décor. They go from a dainty spindle table to a heavy oak cabinet with doors and drawers.

Vanity: A vanity works as a corner piece in large bedrooms. These typically have a bench and seat with a lighted mirror. A vanity works as a cozy nook to put on make up in the morning.

Lights: A floor lamp can add a bit of style to the room as well. There are tons of options around. A floor lamp can help brighten up the corners in any bedroom.

Hamper: No bedroom is complete without a clothes hamper. It’s a much nicer place to stick your dirty clothes than just a laundry basket on the floor. Having a hamper will keep the room neat and tidy.

Bed: Obviously the bed is the biggest piece of furniture in any bedroom. It’s a pretty easy choice. Just pick a bed that doesn’t overpower and crowd in the entire room.

These are only a few of the furniture choices available when choosing bedroom furniture. Just pick a style you like and a few key pieces and you’re set.

Bed Skirts

July 22, 2011 By Wanda Leave a Comment

Once you’ve chosen new sheets and a comforter set for your bedroom, complete the makeover with a matching or contrasting bed skirt and dust ruffle in solid bold colors or patterns.

Like all bedding, bed skirts are available in an extensive range of fabrics and designs, and in all sizes to fit King, Queen, twin, children’s and toddlers’ beds and babies cribs.

If you have an odd sized bed, you might consider having a bed skirt custom order to fit.

And if you have a bed that is higher than usual a bed skirt can be purchased in longer lengths to suit the additional height.

Give your bed a complete look by adding a bedskirt in a pleated, gathered or ruffled style. If you like ruffles then why not try extra ruffling to get a fuller appearance. For an attractive effect, why not use two contrasting bedskirts of different lengths, to give your bedding an attractive layered look. Box pleated skirts give a very chic an tailored look to the bed.

Apart from the full bed skirt which is available to fit all bed sizes, you can attach them by affixing Velcro closure strips to the box base and pressing the bed skirt into place.

Some comforters have a ruffled or box pleat skirt already attached.

As with all your bedding, check the thread count to ensure you are getting the quality you require.

And just think of the stuff you can hide under the bed and no one will know the difference when it is all hidden under an attractive skirt.

Bed in a Bag

July 22, 2011 By Wanda Leave a Comment

So you’ve been inspired by your favorite magazine or home decorating television channel to invigorate the look of your bedroom. Knowing that your bedding will be a focal point of your finished room, you take a lot of time to plan out your final look, from the pattern of the bed skirts to the material in your comforter. You spend hundreds of dollars ordering each element of your bedding, and you can’t wait to see the final result. You tear the boxes open, gleefully make your bed, and stand back to view the final result – and immediately wish you had bought a bed in a bag

Even for careful designers, it’s easy to make mistakes when putting together a bedding ensemble. Shades of color can be subtly different from how they looked online, material can have a different sheen or feel than you expected, patterns can be different than you remembered. With just a little bit of bad luck, you can go from the elegant, tied-together look that you were expecting to a jumble of contradicting hues and styles.

This is why bedding ensembles have become so popular today. Each element, from pillow shams to bed skirts, have been professionally designed to blend together and enhance the overall beauty of your bedding. You won’t have to worry about carrying swatches of fabric around with you to be certain that you aren’t making a mistake that will haunt you later.

If you want to go beyond just your bedding, some companies offer Bedrooms in a Bag as well. These sets include not only bedding but other bedroom elements as well, such as window treatments, table rounds, and lamp shades. This is an easy way to completely revolutionize the look and feel of your bedroom.

Best of all, bedding ensembles and Bedrooms in a Bag often times offer a healthy discount over buying each individual element separately. Not only can you have a room that is guaranteed to look great, but you can save money doing it as well!

Bedding for the Aged

July 22, 2011 By Wanda Leave a Comment

As we age it can get a little bit harder to move about. That’s why they invented bedding for the aged.

When we think of elderly bedding typically we think of those big industrial hospital beds. There is much more to them than that!

There is an adjustable bed to fit any home.

The first thing to look at is the construction of the bed. Better quality beds will have multiple adjustment points.

This means the feet and the head can both be independently raised and lowered to find the perfect sleep position.

Another thing to look for in bedding construction is the type of mattress.

A normal coil mattress will bunch and bind where it adjusts. Because of this a foam mattress is a good alternative. The flexibility of foam will provide a great nights sleep.

Another option is to go with an air mattress. One of the biggest benefits of an air mattress is you can adjust the firmness of the mattress. You’ll get the perfect level of comfort for you.

Benefits of an adjustable bed

An adjustable bed can improve your circulation. With just the flick of a switch you can elevate your feet above your heart.

If you snore at night or have apnea then you can raise your head up. This can help keep your airway open and freely breathing all night long.

Baby Bedding Sets With Comforters

July 22, 2011 By Wanda Leave a Comment

Some of the prettiest comforters come as part of full baby bedding sets. These ensure a good match of colors and can give a very co-ordinated look to the crib.

If you choose a bedding set, check if you can buy an extra set of matching sheets at the same time. That way, you can always have one in the crib and one in the wash and the crib will always look perfect!

Take a look at some adorable baby bedding sets, including comforters from:

Lambs & Ivy, CoCalo, Sumersault , Laura Ashley, Kimberley Brant, Patch Kraft ,Bananafish, Picci and Baby Martex…….just for starters!

Choosing Comforter Fillings

Polyester

Polyester filling is the easiest for laundering – and with babies there’s always a lot of that! Polyester also keeps its’ shape and fluffiness. Cotton batting is also available but it tends to be flatter than polyester and can bunch up leaving bare spots where the filling has shifted.

Whichever filling you choose, make sure that the comforter is quilted with large stitches to hold that filling in place. Large stitches don’t cut the filling and therefore it won’t bunch-up when the comforter is washed.

Goose Down and Egyptian Cotton

For pure luxury, you could choose a white goose down comforter. White goose down is just the purest, fluffiest white down – with no gray feathers or quills. A 350 count Egyptian Cotton Cover helps to regulate the warmth of this luxurious comforter.

Silk

You could consider silk – it’s 100% natural and non-allergenic. It’s also lightweight, hardwearing, easy to launder and is the silkiest fabric for your baby’s soft skin. Silk is also very versatile – it’s cool in summer and warm in winter. Silk comforters may have pure silk or 100% cotton covers.

Wool

Wool is another natural product that is non-allergenic, soft and hardwearing and is less expensive than pure silk. If you want to buy organic, choose a comforter that has an organic cotton cover.

Wool also ‘wicks’ moisture away from the skin, helping to keep an even body temperature.

You could try an All Seasons comforter from New Zealand. This is actually two comforters – a 200 gram one for warmer weather and a 300 gram one for when it’s cooler. For ultimate warmth when the temperature really drops, combine the two for the coziest sleep.

Sizing

Comforter sizes vary but generally they are wider and shorter than the crib mattress – so if the quilt doesn’t cover the whole length of the crib, don’t worry that you’ve bought the wrong size…this is normal!

Enjoy Your Baby Bedding

As long as you follow the simple safety rules, there is no reason why your baby shouldn’t have the best-dressed crib. And once they are old enough to keep themselves safe, they can enjoy the snuggly warmth of their comforter – it won’t be long…those early months fly by!
